My Nepenthe in Review

Well folks, it’s been a whirlwind of a week with lots of great press surrounding my book followed by a sold out event in Carmel and around town, not withstanding that my book won Best Regional Cookbook for 2009 by Epicurious.
I have a stellar line up this week and hoping you will join me somewhere along the way for what is turning out to be a thrilling ride.
But first, if you didn’t see the SF Chronicle DATEBOOK piece, check it out here.
Also of note, Heidi Swanson of 101 Cookbooks fame gave my book a very nice review and included an adapted recipe for my Orange and Oat Scones using whole-wheat pastry flour.
Bay area journalist Sarah Henry posted an informative Q and A on Berkeleyside, a new website with a notable roster of contributors, and has a give away on her blog.
And here’s a link to more photos from my event at Mrs. Dalloway’s on College Ave., again by friend and multi-talented photographer, Doug McKechnie.

Coming up this week:
Tuesday, November 17 at 6 pm: Talk and signing at Book Passage in SF Ferry Building. A cheese reception hosted by Cowgirl Creamery .
Wednesday, November 18 at 7:30 pm: Talk and signing at Capitola Book Cafe.
Thursday, November 19 at 7:30 pm: Talk and signing at Booksmith in San Francisco’s legendary Haight Ashbury neighborhood.
Saturday, November 21 at 10 am: West Coast Live radio at Berkeley’s Freight and Salvage, along with tennis champ Andre Agassi and musicians Tuck and Patti. For advanced tickets purchase here.
Saturday, November 21 at 7pm: Caffe Trieste on Piedmont Ave. Book signing and celebration. No host wine and coffee bar, belly dancing to begin at 8. There will be a limited supply of books on hand. To be sure you have one, pick up a copy this week at Mrs. Dalloway’s on College Ave.

I so wish I still lived in CA so that I could attend one of your signings, but I’m enjoying following you here along the way! Cheers!

Hi – I don’t comment on many web sites but had to on your site. It’s fantastic! I really like how you write – very to the point, unlike a lot of other blogs. Thanks for having this site. I found your site while looking for another one on Bing. I don’t have time to read all the articles here right now, but I have bookmarked this site and will visit again very soon to see your latest updates. I love reading about cooking, it is my favorite past-time. The recipes on your site are incredible. I can’t wait to try them out on my family. They think I’m crazy (and maybe they are right lol) when they see me at work in the kitchen. Click here if you’d like to check out my site. Keep up the great work!
Dear Romney,
I was born in San Francisco, grew-up in Sunnyvale and visited Nepenthe many times in the 1960’s. I moved to Australia in the 1970’s and now have 5-acre property in Tasmania with a heirloom fruit orchard and vegetable garden. We named this property Nepenthe after all wonderful experiences and sentiments that your Nepenthe means for so many people such as a refuge and gathering for artists and others and all to be nourished. Needless to say I can’t wait to receive your book but it will take a few weeks to get here. Can’t wait! Congratulations on all your positive reviews and the appreciation that flows from so many. What glorious memories we have!
Hi jan, Love that you wrote in and told your story. I have always wanted to go to Australia, and in fact, many people have told me how much I would love it there. There is also Nepenthe Vineyards which is in Australia; I believe they also came up with their name after visiting the restaurant. Thank you for your thoughts and memories too; I also believe Nepenthe to be a refuge for artists and a place that nourishes the soul. Brava to you for recreating your own Nepenthe. And thank you also for ordering a book. Be well, Romney
